LOL WEDNESDAYS @ 255 tapas lounge By Cha Cha Bogard

Atlanta Night Life Examiner Posted 2/12/2011

EveLOL WEDNESDAY FINAL 2010ry Wednesday at 9:00 p.m., please be sure to check out ‘LOL Wednesdays’ located at 255 Peters Street SW in Atlanta, GA; it is something to “laugh out loud”! With various headliners, and other local comedians, ‘Phat Comedy’ brings it on with flavor and panache! Smarter than ‘Batman and Robin’ and funnier than the ‘Wayans Brothers’, the dynamic duo of Quincy Bonds and Aaron Short (aka ‘A-Short’), are producing and introducing talent into the mainstream of comedic relief through continuous laughter at various venues here in Atlanta, Toronto and Los Angeles since 2002! These Morehouse College graduates –both with marketing degrees—have discovered a niche within Atlanta to showcase local talent. “It provides an opportunity for those wanting to do comedy, like an ‘open mic’ and for us to give people what they want do…to laugh,” exclaims Quincy Bonds, who has appeared as ‘Pookie’ on Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne” and who is a comedian/actor in his own right. Coupled with his partner in crime, ‘A Short’, these young brothers captures their guests as hostages by their line-up of humorous antidotes and double-entendres that massacre the masses with fresh comedy! Albeit Quincy and A-Short do not have an “actual” home in their nomadic infrastructure, it does not deter the following to their events. Standing Room Only! Crowd laughter…audience participation…fuel the energy of the comedians performing. Usually the bill consists of 6 to 8 performers –black, white, male, female—it does not matter! Heck! Even the host is funny!

The comedy was PHAT! The tacos were PHAT! The drinks were PHAT! The gIrls butts were PHAT! I had a PHAT time on my skinny budget. Only $7 to get in and I saw comics from TV. The other clubs want $15 for no name guys.

Pros: Hot comics and hotter women.

Cons: They should do 2 nights a week.

The best Tuesday night stand-up comedy show!!! Something different, and great for a first date! Laugh til it hurts!

For the last 4 weeks I have gladly driven all the way from Gwinett County to see an average of 9 different professional stand-up comedians per show. Each week that I have gone, there have a variety of different comics. I have NEVER been disappointed. Phat Comedy is a perfect mix of stand up comics with different styles, and the mixed crowd is a melting p0t of different cultures.. Pinch me cause I must be dreaming.. -For only a few bucks, you can see a live show with hot new comedians, as well as famous vetrans of the industry that have performed on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central, and many other shows. So far, I have gone to about 5 shows and have seen: Pierre!!, J-Deep (from Barbershop), K-Dubb (from Bad Boys), Tyler (Who’s Got Jokes), Clayton English (Tyler Perry’s House of Pain), Zoo Man, Ron G, Big Drew, Tanya Lee Davis, and more.. —UNBELIEVEABLE!!! – This is a GREAT place to take a date. I am still shocked that these famous comedians choose to perform in such a small place, but am extremely grateful that they do! I mean I sat less than 10 feet from the stage almost EVERY week! There are more and more people at every show, so I am thinking that you should check it out before heads get big, and ticket prices go up. —I would recommend that you call and reserve a table ahead of time because if not, there is a possibility that you will be in the standing room only section. ( the upstairs is too small and crowded to accomodate the new-found popularity of the show) I would also NOT recommend bringing kids, nor going if you are sensitive to profanity etc. But then again, comedy is ONLY for people that can take a joke!!!!

Pros: A GREAT time! Incredible show!

Cons: Do NOT bring kids
